Committee Structure
Committees are elected by the members of their region every two years. As well as Regional Committees, the IPU has four national committees.
President
Caoimhe McAuley
Caoimhe McAuley was elected as President of the IPU by the Executive Committee and took up the position in May 2026. Originally from Cushendun County Antrim Caoimhe is a community pharmacist and Director of Pharmacy and Superintendant Pharmacist for Boots Ireland. Ms McAuley has served as Vice-President of the IPU for the past two years, representing the full breadth of community pharmacy and supporting all members regardless of employment setting. She has been a consistent voice for unity within the sector, emphasising that a strong IPU is a united one.
She brings more than 20 years’ experience in community pharmacy, with a career spanning frontline practice, operational leadership and national service delivery.

Past President
Tom Murray
Tom Murray was elected as President of the IPU by the Executive Committee and took up the position in April 2024. Tom is a community pharmacist based in Ramelton, Co Donegal, and a past Treasurer of the Irish Pharmacy Union. Mr Murray has been involved with the IPU for over 20 years.
Tom Murray first qualified as a pharmacist, from Manchester University in 1995.
Vice President
John Brassil
John Brassil, Brassil’s Pharmacy, Tralee, Co Kerry, was elected as Treasurer of the IPU by the Executive Committee and took up the position in April 2024.
